While most of the country was celebrating Thanksgiving this past November, we were doing something a little different.
We were harvesting acorns — four hundred pounds of them.
For us, this wasn’t just about gathering food. It was about honoring an ancient relationship between people and the land. Acorns have been a staple food for countless generations, a symbol of resilience, nourishment, and reciprocity.
Since that day, our work with the acorns has continued. We’ve carefully dried them, and now, as we need them, we are cracking and leaching them—one batch at a time—transforming these humble seeds into delicious, life-giving food.
Each step in the process connects us back to our roots:
🌰 Harvesting with gratitude.
🌰 Drying with patience.
🌰 Cracking with care.
🌰 Leaching with respect for the natural cycles.
The taste of acorn flour—nutty, earthy, and rich—is a reminder that real abundance comes from relationship, not from excess. It’s a slow, reverent process, and it’s reshaping the way we think about food, time, and tradition.
We’re not just reclaiming an ingredient—we’re reclaiming a way of life.
More to come as we share recipes, stories, and lessons from this incredible harvest season.
Thank you, Ancestors. Thank you, Oak Trees. Thank you, Earth.
Stay tuned — the journey with acorns has only just begun.
